Toggl vs Clockify comes down to three things. Clockify is cheaper per seat and free for more people. Toggl Track costs more and says in writing that it takes no screenshots. Both keep your time entries on their own servers, under an account, in a workspace. This TimePrivate page puts the two side by side with every price quoted from Toggl's and Clockify's own pages, read on 30 September 2026, then adds a third column for TimePrivate: a Mac time tracker with no account and no server, which is not released yet and is listed here as exactly that.
TimePrivate is not released. There is no download, no trial and no purchase today. Apple Silicon Macs first, Windows on the roadmap.
Pick Clockify if price per seat and a free plan for up to five people decide it. Pick Toggl Track if you want a vendor that refuses screenshot monitoring in writing, and you accept paying more than twice as much per seat at the entry paid tier for it. That ratio is $9 against $3.99 a month on annual billing, from toggl.com/track/pricing and clockify.me/pricing, both read on 30 September 2026. Toggl Track and Clockify are the same kind of product: a hosted workspace you sign in to, where every extra person is another paid seat.
The caveat TimePrivate owes you up front: TimePrivate is one person on a Mac. It has no team plan, no approvals and no mobile app. If you are choosing a tracker for a team, your real choice is Toggl Track or Clockify, and this page treats it that way.
Every Toggl Track and Clockify cell in this table is quoted or summarised from that vendor's own pricing page or help centre, read on 30 September 2026, and listed in the sources table at the bottom of this page. TimePrivate has not tested either tool hands on, so a cell it could not confirm says "not verified" instead of guessing. The TimePrivate column describes an unreleased app and its planned pricing.

Most Toggl vs Clockify pages in the search results stop at features and a price line, and one of them is written by a third tracker that ends by recommending itself. TimePrivate is doing the same thing here, which is why the TimePrivate column also shows every row where it loses: free plan, teams, phones, and availability.
Toggl vs Clockify pricing pages quote a price per seat and leave the multiplication to you. TimePrivate has done it below with the annual billing prices read on toggl.com/track/pricing and clockify.me/pricing on 30 September 2026: price per seat, times twelve months, times people. Tax is not included, and monthly billing costs more on both.
| Your situation | Toggl Track, per year | Clockify, per year | TimePrivate, per year |
|---|---|---|---|
| One person, timer only | $0 on Free | $0 on FREE | $79 planned, no free tier |
| One person with billable rates | $108 on Starter ($9 x 12), which lists "Billable rates" | $47.88 on BASIC ($3.99 x 12), which lists "Billable rates" | $79 planned, with per entry billable control and client rates |
| Five people, tracking only | $540 on Starter (5 x $108), because Free stops at 3 users | $0 on FREE, which covers up to 5 users | Not built for teams |
| Five people with timesheet approvals | $960 on Premium (5 x $16 x 12) | $329.40 on STANDARD (5 x $5.49 x 12) | Not built for teams |
| Ten people with timesheet approvals | $1,920 on Premium | $658.80 on STANDARD | Not built for teams |
| Ten people with screenshot monitoring | Not offered at any price, per Toggl's FAQ | $958.80 on PRO (10 x $7.99 x 12) | Not offered, and none planned |
Read on price alone, Clockify wins every team row in this TimePrivate cost table, often by a factor of about three at the approvals tier ($16 against $5.49 per seat a month). The Toggl Track case is not price. It is the features around the timer, which the next two sections cover, and a public refusal to sell monitoring. For a solo freelancer the numbers are small on all three, and the TimePrivate freelance time tracking page works through what those hours are worth when you bill them.
This is the Toggl vs Clockify difference that feature roundups mention least, and it matters most if someone else pays for your seat. All vendor facts here were read on 30 September 2026.
What Clockify publishes. Clockify's PRO plan, at $7.99 per seat a month on annual billing, lists "Activity monitoring", "GPS tracking" and "Kiosk photo capture". Clockify's help page on Activity Monitoring screenshots says the desktop agent captures screenshots on an interval set "between 30 to 1800 seconds", that "Screenshots will not be captured while the user is idle", and that screenshots are stored "for 60 days before they are automatically deleted". Existing workspaces keep legacy screenshots until January 1, 2027.
What Toggl Track publishes. Toggl's pricing FAQ answers "Does Toggl monitor employees or take screenshots?" with "No. Toggl doesn’t monitor employees, take screenshots, or record keystrokes, browsing history, or location." Toggl Track does have an opt in Timeline that "records each website and program you view for over 10 seconds", and Toggl's help page says Timeline data "is account-specific" and that "Other workspace users (including admins) do not have access to it". Synced Timeline data is kept for the last 90 days on Toggl's servers.
Where TimePrivate sits. TimePrivate also records the frontmost app and the browser domain, because automatic tracking needs that. The difference is where it goes: into a database on your Mac, with a daily draft timesheet you approve, adjust or discard. There is no screenshot capture, no keystroke logging, no GPS and no manager view, and no plan that adds them. How TimePrivate's automatic time tracking works goes through what is written down and what is not.
The limit worth stating. Picking Toggl Track or TimePrivate does not stop other software on your machine from watching you. If an employer installs a monitoring agent, it runs regardless. TimePrivate only claims that it is not one of those programs.
Both Toggl Track and Clockify still have a $0 plan. The limits are what changed, and they sit in help pages rather than on the pricing grid. Quoted as read on 30 September 2026.
Clockify's pricing page lists FREE "For up to 5 users", and its free plan help page sets the "User Limit: 5 active users (including the Owner and active members)". Seats count by invitation on paid plans: "Every active or invited user listed on your Team page occupies one paid seat."
Clockify's free plan note limits the "Report and dashboard date range filter: 1 month (31 days) at a time". Its export help page says "PDF (Free plan) or CSV/Excel (Basic plan or higher)" and "A PDF file can contain up to 3000 rows". Those are report export limits. Workspace owners can separately export the current year's time entries as CSV from Workspace settings on the Free plan.
Toggl's pricing page lists Free at "$0", "Free for a limited number of users", and its FAQ answers "Is Toggl free for teams?" with "Yes, up to 3 users." The same page says "Toggl's Free plan is free forever." For one freelancer, that is a real free tracker.
Toggl's export guide says "We recommend you download the export as a CSV", then that "Certain export formats are only available on Paid plans". Workspace exports arrive by email as a link that "is valid for 72 hours". Test your own export before you commit years of history to either tool.
TimePrivate has no free plan at all, which is the fair counterpoint: planned pricing is $9 a month or $79 a year. What TimePrivate offers in place of a free tier is a history with no date window or export tier, because the database is already a file on your Mac.
Toggl Track costs more per seat than Clockify at every listed tier. Here is when the extra is buying something, using only what each pricing page lists on 30 September 2026.
If your team would resent screenshots, Toggl Track's written "Anti-surveillance stance" and its FAQ line that it does not "take screenshots, or record keystrokes, browsing history, or location" is a commitment Clockify does not make, since Clockify sells Activity monitoring on PRO.
Toggl's pricing page now bundles planning with tracking: task and board views, a timeline view, milestones, project templates and capacity features like PTO and flexible hours, plus Jira and Asana integrations on Premium and an "MCP/CLI" option to "Track time straight from your terminal".
Clockify lists "Kiosk" on BASIC, and "Approval", "Attendance & overtime", "Invoicing" and a "QuickBooks integration" on STANDARD at $5.49 per seat a month on annual billing. For shift style teams clocking in and out, that is a lot of the job at a third of Toggl Track's Premium price.
Toggl Track and Clockify both keep your time entries in a hosted workspace. If what you want is the record on your own Mac with no account at all, that is the TimePrivate case, set out in the next section with its limits.
Toggl Track and Clockify disagree on price and monitoring, but agree on the model: your hours live in a workspace on the vendor's servers. TimePrivate is built the other way round, for one person, on a Mac.
Where TimePrivate loses to both Toggl Track and Clockify: it is not released, it has no team features, no phone app and no free plan. If one of those is a deal breaker, the Toggl vs Clockify rows above are your answer. If you are coming from one of them specifically, TimePrivate keeps a Toggl Track alternative page with the export steps and a shortlist of Clockify alternatives sorted by where your hours are stored. What TimePrivate leaves out on purpose is under why TimePrivate is private.
Five common situations, each answered with the facts quoted above from Toggl's and Clockify's pages on 30 September 2026.
TimePrivate read each Toggl Track and Clockify page below on 30 September 2026. Prices and plan limits change, and if one of these quotes is out of date, the vendor's own page is the one to trust, not this one.

The yearly totals in the TimePrivate cost table are arithmetic on these quoted prices, not figures either vendor publishes. The TimePrivate side of every row is planned pricing for an unreleased app. This website is separate from the app and runs Google Analytics, PostHog and Microsoft Clarity, all named on the TimePrivate website privacy page.
What people ask when they are choosing between Toggl Track and Clockify, answered by TimePrivate from each vendor's own pages.
Clockify is better on price and free plan size: FREE covers up to 5 users and BASIC is $3.99 per seat a month on annual billing, against Toggl Track's Free for up to 3 users and Starter at $9 per user a month, all read on 30 September 2026. Toggl Track is better if you want a vendor that says in writing it does not take screenshots or record location, which Clockify sells on its PRO plan. Both keep your entries on their servers under an account. TimePrivate is a third option for one person on a Mac with no account, but it is not released yet.
Yes, at every listed tier. On annual billing Clockify BASIC is $3.99 per seat a month against Toggl Track Starter at $9, and the cheapest plan with timesheet approvals is Clockify STANDARD at $5.49 against Toggl Track Premium at $16, per the two pricing pages on 30 September 2026. For ten people with approvals that works out at $658.80 a year on Clockify and $1,920 on Toggl Track. TimePrivate is planned at $79 a year for one person and has no team pricing.
Clockify is still free, with limits. Its pricing page lists FREE for up to 5 users. The free plan help page limits reports to "1 month (31 days) at a time" and report exports to PDF, with CSV and Excel reports from Basic up. Workspace owners can separately export the current year's time entries as CSV from Workspace settings on Free. For one freelancer that is still a usable free tracker. TimePrivate has no free tier at all and is planned at $9 a month or $79 a year.
Toggl Track is worth its higher price if you want its planning features alongside tracking, or a vendor that states in its FAQ that it does not take screenshots or record keystrokes or location. It is not worth it if price per seat decides the matter, because Clockify lists approvals at $5.49 per seat a month against Toggl Track Premium at $16 on annual billing, read on 30 September 2026. For one person, Toggl Track Free costs nothing and is described as free forever.
It depends which part of Clockify you want to change. For a vendor that refuses screenshot monitoring, Toggl Track says so in its pricing FAQ. For hours that never leave your own Mac, TimePrivate has no account and no server, planned at $9 a month or $79 a year, but it is not released and has no team features. The TimePrivate Clockify alternatives page lists more options with prices.
Clockify can, Toggl Track says it does not. Clockify's PRO plan lists Activity monitoring, and its help page says screenshots are taken every 30 to 1800 seconds while the user is active and deleted after 60 days. Toggl's pricing FAQ says "Toggl doesn’t monitor employees, take screenshots, or record keystrokes, browsing history, or location." Both were read on 30 September 2026. TimePrivate has no screenshot feature on any plan.
For a solo freelancer both free plans work, so check what you need to bill. Billable rates are on Clockify BASIC at $3.99 a month and Toggl Track Starter at $9 a month on annual billing, per their pricing pages on 30 September 2026. Clockify Free limits report exports to PDF, but workspace owners can export the current year's time entries as CSV from Workspace settings. TimePrivate is aimed at the same solo freelancer, with billable rates, offline PDF invoices and a local database, planned at $79 a year and not released yet.
Both Toggl Track and Clockify ship a macOS desktop app, and both offer automatic app and website tracking on it. Clockify's auto tracker stores that activity locally on your computer, and Toggl Track's Timeline can sync to its servers, where the last 90 days are kept. TimePrivate has not tested either on a Mac, so it will not rank them. TimePrivate itself is built for Apple Silicon Macs first, with no account, but is not released.
Of these three, Clockify is the one built for it: its pricing page lists a Kiosk on BASIC and Attendance and overtime on STANDARD, read on 30 September 2026. Toggl's pricing page lists no kiosk or attendance feature. TimePrivate is not an employee time clock at all. It has no team, no kiosk and no manager view.
Yes. Export your Toggl Track time entries as CSV from the Detailed Report, as Toggl's own export guide recommends. Clockify lists Import time on its BASIC plan and above. TimePrivate imports Toggl and Clockify CSV exports and calendar .ics files, keeping tags and billable flags. Keep the original CSV either way.
No. TimePrivate is not released, so there is nothing to download and nothing to pay for today, and no launch date is being promised. The waitlist is the whole offer: one email the day it opens. Planned pricing is $9 a month or $79 a year, subscription only, on Apple Silicon Macs first with Windows on the roadmap.
If you need a team tracker this week, the Toggl vs Clockify rows above will pick it for you. If what you actually want is your own hours on your own Mac with no account, TimePrivate is being built for that. It is not ready. The waitlist is one email the day it opens, and nothing else.
Not released yet. Leave your email and we will write to you the day it opens.
